Paul E. Taylor's Obituary
Paul E. Taylor, 98, passed way peacefully April 21, 2026 at Dr. Jay Weil Center Hospice Care. He was born July 19, 1927 in Bolivar, PA, the son of Mary Jane (Irwin) and Paul A. Taylor. His mother passed away May 1930. His father and sister and he moved in with his Grandparents (Eva and LaRue Taylor) in Robinson, PA. In 1939 his father married Hazel McDowell and he moved in with them.
Paul is a World War II Veteran. He joined the Navy in November 1944 and was assigned to the U.S.S. Kula Gulf CVE-108, an Aircraft Carrier in the Pacific fleet. When peace was declared he moved to another Aircraft Carrier operating in the Atlantic Fleet He was discharged March 1948.
After his discharge from the Navy he was employed with Bethlehem Steel, Johnstown, PA plant. In his 33+ years with Bethlehem Steel, he held numerous positions in Personnel and Labor Relations at plants and mining operations in Kentucky, Pennsylvania and the Lackwanna plant in Buffalo NY. He retired from the Corporate Office in Bethlehem, PA on December 31, 1982.
Paul attended Bolivar, PA high school and continued his education in the Navy. He did business courses at the University of Pittsburgh in Johnstown, PA and Industrial Relations Master program at St. Francis College in Loretto, PA.
May 1983 Paul and his wife Hilda moved to Richmond, KY and opened an Unfinished Furniture Store. They closed the store in September 1984 and moved to Clearwater, FL. He then worked for 15 years for H&R Block Tax Preparation. After his beloved Hilda passed he moved to Independent Living at Coral Oaks and then to the memory care of Discovery Village.
Paul enjoyed playing golf, going to horse races, going to spring training baseball games, singing in the church choir. Later in life he sang in the chorus at Coral Oaks and participated in the sing-a-longs at Discovery Village. He loved singing.
Through the years, he dearly enjoyed the weekly breakfast with his “buddies” - Tony, Virgil, Keith, Loren. He very much enjoyed spending time with his neighbors, friends and family.
He was a fan of the University of Pittsburgh Panthers, Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Steelers.
Paul was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Clearwater, sang in the choir, and was part the church Gophers.
Paul is survived by sisters: Helen (Richard) Brauer of Naples, FL, Donna Clark of Newfane, NY, Betty Lou Horner of Ligonier, PA. Cousins: Mary Penrose of Robinson, PA, Virginia Henderson of Trinity, FL and many Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Hilda; Mother Mary Jane Taylor and Father Paul Taylor; Step-Mother Hazel Taylor; Sister Mary Jane Taylor; Brother Arthur L. Taylor; Nephew Robert C. Taylor; Grand-Parents Eva and LaRue Taylor; first wife Vivian (Sibby) and several loving Aunts, Uncles, Cousins.
The family would like to thank the staff at Coral Oaks, Discovery Village and Dr. Jay Weil Center Hospice Care for the loving care and friendship to Paul.
A celebration of life for Paul will held May 16th 11:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church, 1812 North Highland Ave., Clearwater, FL 33755. At a later date a Celebration of Life will be held in Pennsylvania. Interment Laurel Cemetery, Allentown, PA.
In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Paul are invited to be made to Gulfside Hospice, 2061 Collier Parkway, Land O' Lakes, FL 34639 or Grace Lutheran Church, 1812 North Highland Ave., Clearwater, FL 33755
