Peter B. Ferrara Sr.'s Obituary
FERRARA, SR., Peter Biagio
Age 93, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2016. He was born on October 21, 1923, to Vincent and Vita Ferrara. He grew up in Washington, DC, where he was a high school track star at McKinley Tech, served honorably in the U.S. Army Air Forces during WWII, worked for the U.S. government for over 40 years as a mechanical engineer and held numerous patents, and moved to Largo, Florida, in 1987. On June 17, 1945, he married Verla L. Weedon of Pratt, Kansas, who preceded him in death in 2008. They were married 63 wonderful years enjoying family and friends, honoring God, traveling throughout the country and overseas (including many times to Italy), performing ongoing mission work in Honduras, and dancing together as often as possible. He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings. Peter is survived by his four children Ray (Kim), Janice Walden, Peter Jr. (Rachel), and Tom (Cindy) and two foreign exchange student sons, Bjorn Bratland of Norway and Yoshi Umebayashi of Japan. He was also blessed with three grandchildren Dana (Dave) Walker, Doug Kinsey (Ally), and Stephanie (James) Close, and six great grandchildren. He was a 3rd degree Mason and served as Master of Justice-Columbia Lodge No.3, a member of Christ Presbyterian Church, a volunteer for Morton Plant Hospital and many other organizations, and an officer of his condo association. He loved to cook, especially Italian, and there wasn’t a recipe he couldn’t make better! Music was a lifelong passion, and he taught himself to play the guitar and organ. A memorial service will held on Saturday, December 10, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Christ Presbyterian Church in Largo, followed by a celebration luncheon. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Morton Plant Mease Foundation in Clearwater or Christ Presbyterian Church in Largo.
