O.k here is one of the funniest, which is what Pete would appreciate. Pete was very kind to all of his neighbors, which included me and my family. Two doors up from the Griffin house was the Hilke house. Mr. and Mrs. Hilke was an old couple that lived on our street, they lost both of their kids, daughter and son long before they died. Pete was always looking out for them, working on their furnace, etc. Well, one evening Pete and I were standing in front of the house, enjoying the warm evening and laughing. Pete's son, John came home and said "Dad, you better get over to the Hilke's!" Pete and I walk over to find Mrs. Hilke, approximately 90-years-old coming out of the house, wearing a winter coat over her house dress, large pocketbook hanging from her arm, negotiating the steps with her cane on one side and the banister on the other. Pete walked up to her and said, "Where are you going? Come on, turn around and go back inside!" She replied, "I can't take it anymore! I'm leaving him!". Right about then, Mr. Hilke appeared at the door, wearing his coat, over his pajama's and slippers, carrying a pillow. Pete see's this and say's "Oh my God, WHERE ARE YOU GOING?" Mr. Hilke replied, "I don't know. I'm going with her!"...
Thanks to Pete, Mr. and Mrs. Hilke lived.... ever after! Happy? Who knows? lol
