I met Pete 27 years ago when I answered a small classified ad in the back of the now defunct “Plastic Fanatic” magazine. We were both lifetime modelers relatively new to the blossoming 1/43 scale car model hobby. We quickly bonded and began an open, ego free exchange of the various techniques and materials each was experimenting with in the pursuit of the perfect model. Peter managed to turn his passion into a full time endeavor and became a success despite the difficult challenge of turning a hobby into a profitable career.
He showed me many kindnesses over the decades. Early on he turned over one of his regular clients to me to build for knowing I wanted my own little slice of the pie even if it was just a part time side gig. Never shy about sharing spare parts or decals, I turned to him many times when I became stuck on a project for lack of that missing detail. He never hesitated to share what had to make another’s life a little easier.
This moment I’m listening to a Pat Metheney (Peter would approve) album on a vinyl record sound system put together with the help of Peter’s expertise. I will never be able to listen to it play without thinking of his generosity, kind spirit and grace. He will be missed terribly, yet I know where he is now he’s bringing that same gentleness of spirit to those around him there that he displayed while on this earth. Rest peacefully Peter.
