Petrona E. Watson's Obituary
Petrona E. Watson, 78, Former Islander worked in health care, devoted to family. Former Staten islander, Pertrona Watson, 78, a retired health care worker, died Tuesday, February 1st in the BayCare Alliant Hospital, Dunedin, Florida. Born and educated in Jamaica, West Indies, she came to the United States in 1968, Settling in the Meiers Corners area. In 1973 she met and married Thomas Watson; together they shared a love of traveling by the Amtrak rail system and would travel to the South on vacations. She enjoyed taking bus trips to Atlantic City and various outings with the local AARP. Mrs. Watson was fond of dancing and enjoyed traveling to Brooklyn to attend 'West Indian" parties. She was employed by the Silver Lake Nursing Home for 15 years, after leaving that employment; she continued home health care in a private setting of 3 years. In 1997 she moved to Florida, settling in the Clearwater area where she and her husband dedicated themselves to God upon joining the Shiloh Baptist Missionary Church in Dunedin. Her husband, Thomas Watson, died in 1998. She was completely devoted to her late brother Cyril McPherson, who predeceased her in 2007. "She had a sharp sense of humor and would always speak her mind-she told it like it was-but always in a loving way." "She loved to cook and enjoyed making her famous rice/peas & curried goat", said loved ones. Surviving are brothers Cyrus James and Leslie Ballos; her sisters Ena and Katherine Morrison. Also survived and loved by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday February 12, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Moss Feaster Fuenral Home, located 1320 Main Street, Dunedin, Florida.Arrangements under the direction of Moss Feaster Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Dunedin, FL.
