Philip Doganiero's Obituary
Philip “Phil” “Juice” Doganiero, 58, of Belleair, Florida, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2015 at home in the loving arms of his wife and son.
Phil was born February 24, 1957 in Brooklyn, New York to Catherine and the late Philip Doganiero. At the age of 14 his family moved to Clearwater where Phil attended Oak Grove Middle School and graduated from Clearwater High School. At CHS, “Juice” played football and met his high school sweetheart, Dawn Parker. Phil graduated with his B.A. from Florida State University in 1979.
Out of college Phil accepted a position with NCR and later transitioned to BBF. In 1982 Phil founded National Data Products, Inc., a national systems integration company. As President and CEO, NDP was recognized by Inc. magazine in 1990 as one of the fastest growing privately held companies in America. Phil was recognized as a three time finalist for Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young. In 1997 Phil merged NDP with a national public company called Dataflex. This achievement allowed Phil to retire at the age of 40 from corporate America and pursue private business ventures.
In 1999, he led a small group of angel investors in providing initial capital to a promising new concept, PODS. This venture was a spring board for PODS to become an international moving and storage company. Phil served on their board of directors until 2007.
In 1996, Phil was recognized as the Humanitarian of the Year for his commitment to Clearwater for Youth. Among Phil’s list of civic commitments, he served as a Board Member and Benefactor of St. Paul’s School, The Long Center, Clearwater for Youth, Clearwater Central Catholic High School and Florida State University. He was actively involved with Belleair Country Club, Belleair Recreation Center, Carlouel Yacht Club and a member of the Privateers.
One of his greatest personal achievements was competing in and finishing the Iron Man Triathlon in Hawaii in 1997. Through triathlons he developed a love for cycling, running, swimming and weight-training. As an outdoorsman, Phil enjoyed spear fishing, free diving, hunting, snow skiing, and boating. He held a private pilot’s license and loved flying and travel.
Phil is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart of 41 years, Dawn, his son, William Blake, wife Stephanie, and grandson, Bronx; his mother Catherine Doganiero, his brother Frank and fiancé Lea, nephews TJ and Chase and sister Lori Doganiero Palmieri and husband Jim, nieces Gianna and Marisa; the entire Parker family and many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Philip and brother, Jim Burnett.
As an avid fitness and sports enthusiast and through his love of adventure, Phil touched many lives and never missed an opportunity to provide support and encouragement to all he met. When Phil entered a room his larger-than-life presence was evident and he immediately let you know how special you were to him. Phil’s greatest desire was to live every day to its fullest. His legacy of generosity and his love of family will be remembered forever.
A service to celebrate Phil’s life will be held at 4:00pm, Wednesday, August 12th at Church of the Ascension, 701 Orange Avenue, Clearwater, FL 33756. Reverend John Hiers will be officiating. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made in Phil’s honor to Clearwater for Youth, Suite 236, 1501 Belcher Road, Clearwater, FL 33765.
