Phyllis Werner's Obituary
Phyllis L Werner March 14, 1932 – April 10, 20010 Phyllis, affectionately known as "Big Red" because of her big personality and her bright red hair has gone to be with God and her husband Warren. Phyllis is survived by 3 Daughters, Phyllis, Patti, and Janet, 5 Grandchildren, Jakie, Ricky, Shane, Brian, and Shawn, 1 Great-grandchild Laila Marie and her sister Barbara. Mom was born in Philadelphia where she met and later married Warren Werner on December 4th 1952, and had 3 daughters born in Philadelphia. In 1959 they bought a house in Maple Shade NJ and began to raise their family. Dad was a truck driver and Mom a bookkeeper. When we all graduated high school Mom and Dad moved back to Philadelphia where they lived for several years in a resort community called Salem Harbor on the Delaware River. It was a fun place with a golf course, restaurant, pool, marina, volleyball it was like a vacation to go there… perfect for them. They met a lot of great new friends who lived there and had a busy social life. While they were living there Janet married Rick, Phyllis married Charlie and with me living in California they got the itch to move to Maryland and live an easy going lifestyle. Mom decided to take a job as a bartender at a waterfront bar in St. Michaels Maryland where she was known for her great frozen drinks and a big smile. She loved getting out of office work and trying something new. On her days off her and dad were headed to C street for happy hour with all their friends and family or a big BBQ with plenty of crabs. Dad's cousins were all waterman in St. Michaels. A lot of parties would be at moms because she liked to entertain. She loved her blue claws and a party where the biggest jobs were making sure you had enough newspaper for the tables, the beer was cold and everyone was having fun. They both enjoyed living there and probably would have stayed longer but the Grandchildren started coming and they wanted to be closer to them to be Grandmom and Pop. So in 1983 it was back to Philadelphia. They lived in Philadelphia for a couple of years but the Jersey shore keeps calling. Mom and Dad spent most of their time there growing up and made shore that we went there as a family every summer. The cottages in Ship Bottom with walls so thin that you could hear what the neighbor was saying next door like you were sitting in the same room and the cold outdoor showers, but we loved that place and so did all the other families that went down with us. Mom and Dad moved to Ventnor where they felt at home and very happy. Her grandchildren now had a place at the shore just like we did. It was a good time for everyone and the holiday dinners where now at the beach. Dad went back to school to get a couple of credits so he could work in the casinos and Mom went into restaurant management. Again they met some great friends and always had a busy social life where they did everything together. So many great memories at the Jersey Shore. After a few visits to Florida they liked the idea of getting out of the house in the winter and enjoyed the people they had met so on to another adventure! They moved to Dunedin Florida in 2001. They enjoyed the Florida lifestyle but always referred to the Jersey Shore as home. Mom was at her best in life taking care of her family and making sure we were all happy. She was a wonderful wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and friend. It will be hard to go on without her in our lives, but we will because that is what she would want. We will now bring them home to the Jersey Shore where they can be together forever and we will know they are happy and with us always. . We Love You Mom
