Ray Stump's Obituary
Ray K. Stump, 82, loving husband and father, finished his earthly journey on October 23, 2014. He fought a good fight, finished his course, and kept the faith, 2 Timothy 4:7. Ray was born in Copperville, Virginia to Claude and Clara Kelly Stump. He was a 26 year Veteran of the United States Air Force. He retired in Goldsboro, North Carolina and later settled in St. Petersburg, Florida with his wife of 42 years, Jeanette Underwood. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette, both parents, his sisters, Ruby Goode, Claudine Bird, Pauline Bryant; brothers, James and Clyde (Rachel) Stump.
Ray leaves behind his loving wife, Caroletta (Carol) H. Stump, his children, Bobbie Jean (Tom) Perfetto, Ray K.(Melodee) Stump Jr., Pamela J. Brauer; and Thomas (Michelle) Hall. Five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; many special nieces, and his brother, Alvin C. (Nancy) Stump who reside in Virginia.
Ray had a million dollar smile that could win over everyone. He never encountered a stranger without leaving a lasting impression. He acquired many close friends through his travels. He thoroughly enjoyed and looked forward to reunions with all of his friends in Virginia.
Ray had a strong love for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We will miss him and that smile dearly. Until we meet again.
A special thank you to Dr. Ressa McDonald, the dedicated MICU nursing staff, and respiratory therapists of the C.W. Bill Young Veterans Hospital for their love, care and dignity shown to Ray. Dr. McDonald was relentless with her search to restore Ray’s health and brighten his day. The family also wishes to thank the CLC nursing staff for their continued concern long after Ray left their care. He really looked forward to seeing the nurses in CLC again. God Bless each nurse in their daily efforts to help and comfort our Veterans.
Thank you also to Ray’s brother in Christ, Lan Hwu, who was there for him through his long hospital stay.
