Raymond A. Bichimer's Obituary
BICHIMER, Raymond A. 83, of Belleair, FL, and Columbus, OH, died Friday, October 13, 2017,
at Morton Plant Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 30, 1933, in
Cleveland, OH, to the late Charles and Jeanette (Coorlas) Bichimer. Surviving is his wife of 61
years, Nancy (Doersam) along with daughters, Cindy (Don) Currie of Belleair, Kae (Mike)
Sobczyk of Findlay, OH, Barb (Jim) Groner of Gahanna, OH; and son, Mike (Debbie) Bichimer
of Largo, FL; 10 grandchildren, Nicole (Troy) Caldwell, Jason and Ben Currie; Jessica (Jared)
Bulosan, Dr. Kathryn Sobczyk; Steven and Meg Bichimer; Jeremy, Allie and Becca Groner, and
two great-grandsons, Carter and Ethan Bulosan. Also surviving are sister-in-law Elizabeth
Bickimer; sister- and brother-in-law Jean and Hal Ridenour, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Bickimer, and a sister and brother-in-law,
Jane and Bernie Setlak.
A businessman and attorney, Ray was a founding partner and retired president of Means,
Bichimer, Burkholder & Baker Co., L.P.A., Columbus, OH. He was a member of both the Ohio
State and Columbus Bar Associations, as well as a Fellow of the American College of Trust and
Estate Counsel. He was owner/operator of several Florida shopping centers.
Ray earned his undergraduate and Juris Doctor of Law degrees from The Ohio State
University (OSU), Columbus. A member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity and an inductee into its
alumni Hall of Fame, Ray served in many volunteer capacities, including being the fraternity’s
national president from 1983-1985. An avid OSU fan, Ray was a member of its Buckeye Club.
In addition to being a lifelong Cleveland Indians fan, Ray also enjoyed golfing and traveling
with his family and friends. He was a member and past president of both the Columbus Country
Club and Belleair Country Club.
Above all, Ray’s greatest joys in his life were his beloved wife, Nancy, and his family.
He was a parishioner of Saint Cecelia Catholic Church, Clearwater, FL, and Saint Catherine
of Sienna Catholic Church, Columbus. Ray was a member and served as a former president of
the Advisory Board of the Catholic Social Services Agency.
His many philanthropic organizations included the Morton Plant Mease Foundation; the
Salvation Army of North Pinellas County, and Saint Cecelia Catholic Church.
The family would like to thank the staff at Morton Plant Hospital for the professional and
compassionate care they provided for Ray. A special thanks also to Dr. Jay Carpenter.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30AM Monday, October 23, 2017, at Saint Cecelia
Catholic Church, 820 Jasmine Way, Clearwater, FL, 33756. Inurnment will be held at a later
date in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Columbus. There is no visitation. A Celebration of Life will be
held following the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Morton Plant Mease
Foundation, 1200 Druid Road S., Clearwater, 33756; Saint Cecelia Catholic Church, the
Salvation Army, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
