Raymond M. Meagher's Obituary
Obituary
Raymond ‘Ray’ Meagher, 84, of Seminole, Florida, passed away Monday, January 22, 2018, at
The Vineyard at 10929 Ridge Road, Largo, Florida.
A celebration of life Mass will be at 10:00AM on February 10th at Saint Jerome Catholic church,
10895 Hamlin Boulevard, Largo, 33774.
Raymond was born June 23rd, 1933 in Brooklyn, New York to Thomas and Alice Meagher, their seventh
child. As a boy, he was an accomplished basketball player while also participating in
neighborhood games of punchball and stickball. He graduated from Bishop Loughlin Memorial
High School in 1951. He entered the United States Army Reserves in 1952, served active duty
in the Army in 1954 at Panama Canal Zone until receiving an honorable discharge in 1956.
In September 1961, he married Alethea Lyder in Teaneck, New Jersey. He was a terrific dad and
devoted, faithful husband. He enjoyed success in sales, and sales management for Pitney Bowes in New
York and New Jersey until moving to Seminole, Florida in 1972. He enjoyed softball, tennis and playing
with his children. As he grew older, he enjoyed cultivating roses, reading and spending time with friends
and grandchildren.
During his short stay of three weeks at the Vineyard Inn, although weakening, he developed
humorous nicknames for many staff members and handed out printed notes with the adage: “good
better best, never let it rest, ‘til your good is better and your better is your best.” Throughout his
lifetime, he purposed to uplift and put a smile on the faces of all that he met. Joy was his gift.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Alethea: his son, Steve Meagher of Whittier, California, daughter
Marilyn Stuelke of Seminole, Florida, grandchildren, Jimmy and Elenore; as well as many nieces,
nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Matthew,
Thomas, Donald, and Larry, and sisters Claire and Amelia.
