Rebecca Lynn Ross' Obituary
Rebecca Lynn Lowman-Ross, 49, of Clearwater, Florida, passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2021, of complications from COVID. She was born in Levittown, Pennsylvania, the loving daughter of Lee Lowman and Linda Bloom and grew up in Baltimore, Maryland. Becky is survived by her husband, Joel; step-daughter, Samantha Ross; grandsons Marshall and Malachi; brother, Chris Lowman; sister-in-law, Barb Lowman; brother-in-law, James Ross; step siblings, Tony Schlagel, Melanie Cooper, Kerri Council-McHenry, Karen Hanigan, Paul Bloom, and James Bloom; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, four-legged babies, Lakota, Cheyenne, and Lil Girl and her “favorite human”, her beloved niece, Kimberly Szczeszek. She is preceded in death by her father and stepmother, Lee and Harriet Lowman; her mother and step-father, Linda and Joe Bloom; and her four-legged feline baby, Tigger.
Those who knew Becky couldn’t help but be inspired by her huge heart, her infectious laugh, and that smile that lit up any room she entered. Becky was the kindest of souls, and a lover of nature and all animals. If Becky came across an animal that was hurt, she immediately felt their pain and made it her purpose to heal them and make them better. Becky loved to be outdoors and enjoyed being in the water – whether that was at the beach, a river where she and Joel could fish, a lake or a pool where she could swim and enjoy the company of her family. As the daughter of a career Marine, Becky grew accustomed to moving on a regular basis in her adolescence. While she considered Maryland to be her original home, Becky loved the time she spent living in North Carolina, Tennessee, and most recently, Florida. It was during her time in North Carolina that she met the love of her life, her husband Joel. Becky and Joel have been inseparable since they met and experienced many adventures together since they got married in 2010. With Joel, Becky gained a stepdaughter, Samantha, who blessed her with the gift of experiencing what it meant to be a grandmother! Becky loved being Grandma to Marshall and Malachi and was proud to show pictures of how big the boys were getting, talk about what cute and funny things they did recently, or just brag about how adorable they were to anyone who would listen! Family was everything to Becky, and she was fiercely protective of those she loved – including her animals. While Joel was the love of Becky’s life, the light of her life was her beloved niece, Kimberly. More like a daughter than a niece, Becky was Kimberly’s biggest supporter and fan, whether it be teaching her how to ice skate as a child, beaming with pride as she graduated from high school then college, or watching her marry her own true love, Kimberly was truly Becky’s pride and joy.
Becky loved lighthouses. Statues, models, pictures, ornaments – it didn’t matter. If it included the image of a lighthouse, it got Becky’s attention, and the attention of those closest to her who knew how she was drawn to the image. The purpose of a lighthouse is to warn mariners of dangerous shallows and perilous rocky coasts, and to help guide vessels safely into and out of harbors. It’s hard to say why Becky was so drawn to lighthouses over the course of her short life, but perhaps the simple answer is this…that’s who Becky was. She was a lighthouse for those she loved. The next time you see a lighthouse, smile and think of Becky – and know that she loved you and would do anything to keep you safe from harm and support your journey home.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be given to any shelter that saves dogs and cats in your local area. A Celebration of her life will be scheduled in Maryland and in Florida, in the future, when we can all gather safely.
