Richard Steven Devlin's Obituary
Richard S. Devlin March 14, 1946 - May 10, 2025
Richard S. Devlin (Rick) passed away peacefully at home on May 10, 2025. Born March 14, 1946, in Boston, Massachusetts, he grew up in Hyde Park, graduated from Boston Latin and attended Boston College. Rick joined the U.S. Army in 1965 and served in Vietnam until 1967. He spent most of his adult life in Boston and upstate New York before moving to Florida in 2000. Before retiring, Rick was an EMS supervisor in both the main hospital and the Community Living Center for several years at Bay Pines VA Hospital (CW Bill Young VA).
Rick was predeceased by his father, Paul (1950), his beloved mother, Beatrice (Byrnes) Devlin (1995), and his sister, Mary Stirzaker (1994).
He embraced life with love, patience, humility, and laughter. Rick was the best listener, and his quick wit was subtle, yet genius. He loved all animals as much as people, and had a unique way with them.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kaye Gaines, his sister-in-law, Karuna Kramer, and his constant companion, Scout (Great Pyrenees/Border Collie). Rick was joyfully reunited across the rainbow bridge with his loyal dog, Smokey, and his adoring kitties, Bouncer, Daffy & Dilly.
Rick will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He will be buried at Bay Pines National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Empath Suncoast Hospice Foundation in Rick’s honor.
Per Rick’s wishes, there will not be a formal funeral service. A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
