Richard Herman's Obituary
Richard G. Herman, age 82, of Palm Harbor, passed on Thursday, November 10,2011 at his residence. He was born in Yonkers, New York and moved here from Syracuse. Richard grew up in Teneck, NJ. where he attended and graduated from Holyoke High School in Massachusetts. Richard excelled in all sports including Hockey, Football, Track and Soccer. He attended Springfield College in Massachusetts in 1947 until he entered the Air Force Pilot Training Program.Richard spent 30 years in the US Air Force as a pilot .He traveled the world and had a tour of Vietnam. He retired in 1979 as a LT. Colonel. Richard moved to Florida in 1979 where he resided in Dunedin and Palm Harbor . He was a member of the Knights of Columbus (3rd Degree) and a Past Grand Knight since 1979. He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Clearwater. Richard was a devoted Christian and family man who enjoyed a prolific Military life. His legacy is complete and now he has passed on to a Higher place .He was married to Beverly Mae Hanley for 38 years until her death in 1990.Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob Herman and Getrude Gildersleeve and his brothers, Robert and Jack.He is survived by his wife, Carol Ann, son, Jeffrey Herman; daughter Catherine Newell; stepchildren, Kristen Schermerhorn, Kelly Roeske and Scott Smith; 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. A Viewing will be held on Sunday, November 13th from 2-4 pm with a Wake Service will be at 3:45 pm at Moss Feaster Funeral Home, 1320 Main Street, Dunedin. A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated on Monday, November 14th at 10:00 am at St. Michael The Archangel Catholic Church in Clearwater. Interment will follow at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park in Clearwater.
