Sam
Dick and I went to and graduated from Strong Vincent HS., In 1960 just after my 16th birthday I wanted to get my driver’s license but had no car to do it in. I paid Dick $5.00 ( a lot of money for a teenager at that time) to let me use his clapped out Chevy so I could take the test. I had no trouble passing the written or the driving parts but the State Cop failed me anyway. He said that I had a lot of nerve bringing that piece of junk to the test and making him ride in it. I guess he didn’t like the idea of all the smoke coming up through the floor boards or the noises that the car made. Anyway, he said he was going to pass me on the written part but flunk me on the driving part because of the car. As I remember I couldn’t retest for a certain amount of time but managed to retest in my uncle’s New Plymouth as soon as possible. I only had to do the driving part which I managed to pass easily. This memory is engraved on my brain as one of my HS adventures and as I remember Dick was a decent and nice guy and I remember him fondly. My condolences to his family. Sam Nardo
