Richard W. Schmitt's Obituary
Richard W. Schmitt, of Dunedin, Florida, passed away on June 9, 2022 at the age of 89. He was born May 7, 1933 in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, the son of the late Richard and Florence (Faubert) Schmitt. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Helen Ciepiel Schmitt.
An aerospace engineer, he worked on the Apollo project under United Technologies. An avid traveler and photographer he set foot on every continent except Antarctica. He moved throughout his life and could not pass up good conversation or a good meal. He enjoyed the company of his family and his friends. He is already missed.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children, Kevin Schmitt and his wife Carolyn, Valerie Payton and her husband Kim, Joseph Schmitt and his wife Bridgette Nation, and Monica Schmitt with her husband Kyle Rutledge.
Perhaps his biggest thrill in life was his grandchildren, Kurt, Sheena, Erica, Jesse, Tristan, Emilie, Andre, Annalisa, Morgan, Paige, Sophie and Cameron along with 2 great-grandchildren Evan and Ryan.
Along with his family is the larger group of friends of Bill W. This extended family was a part of more than half his life and included people from all over the country and world. The Schmitt family thanks you all for your help and support over the years.
