I’ll always remember Bob Campo as “Uncle Tony”, a name he asked me to call him because he was like family to me and I’m pretty sure the idea was inspired by our Sunday night tradition of watching Sopranos & eating pizza together.
Bob was so special to me and I cherish my memories with him - watching countless movies and discussing them at length, listening to music and hearing stories about his days at the station. He would come alive with excitement telling vivid details of his interactions with legends in the industry. He was such an amazing storyteller.
Bob loved hosting a blackjack game at his dining room table and it was always a good time. He also never missed the opportunity to place a bet on almost anything, including the Oscars. I’m pretty sure he still owes me $20 for Chicago’s sweep in 2003. We debated many times over the film as I loved it and Bob emphatically did not. We all know how he loved a good debate. He was one of the most passionate people I’ve ever known.
When my boys came along, “Uncle Tony” adored them and I loved watching him interact with my them. He’d play a rhythm on the bongos and the boys tried to replicate it. He would also conduct a game where they won cash if they guessed the exact number he was thinking, and somehow, they never lost.
Bob was as generous with his love as he was with his opinions and I’ll always remember him for both. I’m so thankful he was a part of my life and I’ll forever treasure so many moments that could never be captured in a few paragraphs.
I am overjoyed to know that Bob knew Jesus as his and Savior and accepted the beautiful gift of salvation. Until our reunion, I will hold his memory close.
I love you, Uncle Tony! ❤️
