Robert Eggleston's Obituary
Robert K. Eggleston, 95, of Safety Harbor, FL, passed away January 2, 2012. He was born in Akron, Ohio to Frederic and Margaret Eggleston. Bob joined the US Coast Guard one month prior to the bombing of Pearl Harbor and served from 1941-1945. He enjoyed his work for Western Electric in 1940 and again from 1946-1951. He attended the University of Akron from 1951-1954 and the University of Florida, Gainesville from 1954-1956 when he graduated with a degree in electrical engineering. He married Louise Merlitti in 1957. They lived in Maryland for one year, and then relocated to Florida where Bob worked for Honeywell until he retired.Bob loved the sunny, warm climate of Florida and rode a bicycle regularly until he was in his 70's. He enjoyed classical and contemporary music and was a self taught pianist, playing by ear and entertaining many people over his lifetime. He took pride in the creation and telling of jokes and had a ready laugh. He was a brilliant man with many opinions about world politics and global economics and read his weekly edition of The Economist cover to cover until the week of his death.He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 51 years, Louise Merlitti Eggleston and his sister in law Rita (and brother in law Edward) Piotter. Bob is survived by his wife's sister, Yolanda (Alfred) Bujorian of Munroe Falls, OH and nieces and nephews: Reed Hurtt, Karl Piotter, Bart Piotter, Gunner Piotter, Patricia Troyer, John Bujorian, Carl Bujorian and Anne Armao..Cremation has occurred. Memorial services will take place in Stow, OH at a future date to be determined. His remains will be buried with those of his wife at Chestnut Hill Memorial Park in Cuyahoga Falls.To share condolences or memories of Bob, please send cards to the family in care of Yolanda Bujorian, 200 Pinehurst Road, Munroe Falls, Ohio 44262.
