It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Karstunen on August 17, 2024, in Tampa, Florida. Born on January 14, 1930, in Weymouth, Massachusetts, Robert lived a life marked by dedication, service, and love.
Robert served his country honorably in the Army during the Korean War, a testament to his bravery and commitment. After his military service, he built a successful career as an event coordinator for the Sheraton Hotel in Boston, Massachusetts, where his organizational skills and warm personality left a lasting impression on colleagues and clients alike.
Having come to faith later in life, he became a member of First Christian Church in Dunedin. He was also an active member of the Lake Highlander Mobile Home Park community, where he enjoyed the camaraderie and friendships he formed over the years.
Robert had a passion for bowling, a sport he enjoyed throughout his life. His competitive spirit and love for the game brought joy to many of his friends and family.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Ellen Karstunen, and his siblings Nillo Karstunen, Lauri Karstunen, Fred Karstunen, Don Karstunen, Ellen Reed, Auni Tanczos, Bertha Karstunen, and Helen Stankas. Robert is survived by his cherished grandchildren, C.J. Baker and Kara Nelson, and his adored great-grandchildren, Baker Nelson, Roran Baker, and Cohen Baker.
Robert’s legacy of love, strength, and kindness will be remembered by all who knew him. A memorial service will be held to celebrate his life and the many wonderful memories he leaves behind.
Rest in peace, Robert. You will be forever in our hearts.
