Robert Gene Levasseur's Obituary
Robert Gene Levasseur, 75, of Palm Harbor, FL, passed away on October 9, 2022 at
Mease Countryside Hospital in Safety Harbor, FL. He was born in Van Buren, ME, on
September 7, 1947 to the late Antoine and Yvette (Oulette) Levasseur. Robert was
married to the love of his life, Rachel (Cyr) Levasseur for 54 years.
Robert believed family was everything and showed it through his kind heart and giving
soul. He is survived by his loving children and their spouses: his son Robert Levasseur
and his wife Robin (TN), his daughters and their husbands, who were the sons of his
heart; Tammy Gutsfeld and her husband Erik (CT) and Shelly Mule and her husband
Andrew (CT). Robert was also blessed with his beloved grandchildren: Jordyn and
Blake Tomlin (VA), Kasey and Nick Ernzen (MD), Sydney Levasseur (TN), Rayna Mule
(CT), Amanda Tipton (TN), and his best Buddy, Benjamin Gutsfeld (CT). Robert also
leaves behind his precious great-grandchildren: Kaylee, Nataleigh and Lochlan Tomlin,
Natalie and Cole Ernzen, and Blaise and Soren Levasseur-Aukes.
Robert is also survived by his brothers and their wives: Daniel and Arlene Levasseur
(CT) and Glenn and Rita Levasseur (ME); his sisters Patricia and her husband Timothy
Donahue (ID) and Glenda Levasseur; his brothers-in-law Robert Cyr and his wife Leigh
(SC) and Joel Dube (NC); and his sisters-in-law Janet Cyr (CT), Jacqueline Cyr (CT),
and Mary Cyr (CT). Robert also leaves behind his very special mother-in-law, Marie
(Pelletier) Cyr, Melissa Hulick who was like a daughter to him, and many nieces and
nephews. Robert was predeceased by his parents Antoine and Yvette Levasseur, his
father-in-law Clarence Cyr, his “twin” sister Nancy Dube, and his brothers-in-law Nelson
Cyr, Roland Cyr, and Caroll Cyr.
Robert served his country in the U.S. Army from 1968-1970. He worked as a Systems
Analyst at the Hartford Insurance Group where he was fondly referred to as Coach or
Grandpa. Robert and Rachel raised their family in Connecticut before fulfilling their
lifelong dream of retiring to the warm weather of Florida. Robert was a lifelong New York
Yankees fan. He was also an avid golfer and belonged to the Highland Lakes Golf Club
where he enjoyed playing 3-4 times per week.
Robert’s family will be having a funeral mass at the St Aloysius Church, 254 Burritt Street, Plantsville Connecticut, on Saturday, June 17th, at 11:00AM. A reception will be held following mass at the American Legion, 64 Main Street, Southington Connecticut. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St Jude’s
Children's Research Hospital or the Gary Sinise Foundation which supports First
Responders and Veterans.
