Robert Glen Packard's Obituary
Robert Glen Packard, 86, of Dunedin, Florida passed away peacefully on July 24, 2018 while surrounded by his family. A native of Lodi, Wisconsin, Robert was a Sergeant and tank commander in the U.S. Army before building his home in Dunedin in 1957, where he lived with Nancy, his wife of 63 years, until his passing. He also leaves behind his three children: Steve (wife Debbie), Susan (husband Kevin), and Bill (wife Jill) and grandchildren: Brie, Lisa, Kaelyn, Taylor, Ryan, Chloé, Christine, Elizabeth, and great-grandchildren: Luke, Jordan, Noah, Emma, Evelyn. He is predeceased by his parents Roy Packard and Irma Towne Packard, sister Priscilla, brother Harlan, and survived by their children, his many nieces and nephews, in Wisconsin.
Bob worked as a Sales Manager for concrete building products and joked that he had poured most of the concrete slabs in Pinellas County. His real love was his family, where he served as a Little League baseball coach and announcer, and was known to occasionally break into singing “The Wabash Cannonball” over the announcer’s microphone at Dunedin American Little League field. He enjoyed being a Dunedin High School band booster and pipe band parent, and lost a lot of sleep chaperoning band trips for all his kids. For many years, Bob bowled every Monday night in Dunedin Lanes’ leagues and the family all knew Monday was spaghetti night for dinner since he was bowling. He was a past president and member of the Dunedin Kiwanis Club, for many years serving pancakes all night long in the big tent. He loved to go camping and fishing with his family and travelled all over the U.S. with Nan and his kids. Later when his grandkids were bigger, he and Nan frequently took them to Disney World, state parks, and Florida State University football games in their RV. For many years he and Nan were FSU and Tampa Bay Bucs season ticket holders and faithfully followed the Seminoles, the Bucs, and the Rays, both in the stadium and on tv.
He had a mind like a steel trap (he could remember even the smallest details of places he had visited),but he will be most remembered for his big, generous heart. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 2:30 pm at Moss Feaster Funeral Home, 1320 Main Street in Dunedin.
