Robert W Shackton Jr.'s Obituary
SHACKTON, Robert W. Jr., 74, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2018 after a courageous battle with
chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML-2) contracted from toxic waters at Camp Lejeune
Marine Corps Base in North Carolina.
Born December 25, 1943 at Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina, he moved to Clearwater,
FL in 1948. He was a St. Cecelia Catholic Church five generation parishioner. He attended
Clearwater School, St. Cecelia Parochial, Clearwater Junior High, Clearwater High Class of
1961 and the University of Florida, where he pledged Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He was
honorably discharged in 1970 from the US Marine Corp.
He was a 35 year newspaper advertising account executive at Clearwater Sun, The Flyer, the St.
Petersburg Times and retired from the Hearst Corporation. He was also a state certified
paramedic for five years in Pasco and Pinellas Counties. He was a past president of the Victoria
Condominiums in Dunedin, a member of the American Legion Post 7 Turner-Brandon,
Clearwater, a member of MENSA and the OSS Society.
He is survived by his spouse of 51 years, Catherine L. (McKenzie) Shackton; sons, Thomas
Patrick Shackton (Alexandria), a First Watch Regional Vice President, Timothy Andrew
Shackton (Leah), a renowned brewmaster at Ulele Restaurant, Tampa and William Robert
Shackton (Elizabeth) a Countryside High School biology teacher and track coach; a niece,
Katherine (Jay) Preble, a Jesuit High School teacher, 13 grandchildren, Lauren, Christian,
Patrick, Graham, Katherine, Liam, Samantha, Mackenzie, Isabella Shackton, Rachel and Sarah
Preble, Olivia Anderson and Heath Anderson and two great grandchildren, Mila Holcomb and
Jude Anderson.
Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery with Honors.
Moss Feaster Funeral Home, Clearwater is in charge of arrangements.
