Robert Victor Thompson's Obituary
Vic Thompson, 66, of Homosassa, FL, formerly of Pleasant Prairie, WI; Palatine, IL and Columbus, IN. joined his heavenly family on February 15, 2025.
Vic was born on November 28, 1958, in Columbus, IN to Robert and Jeanne Thompson. He is a proud Purdue engineering graduate and Phi Delta Theta member.
His passions were many, but none greater than love for his family. He married Patricia Thompson and had two wonderful children, Robert Christopher, and Ellen Josephine. Vic did not have any siblings, but considered his cousin, Ellen Butler to be his sister. He married his wife, Diane in 2007, and they enjoyed a wonderful life filled with love and many happy memories.
Vic thrived on a full social calendar. Whether it was having a drink and eating great food or grilling year-round for his family and many friends. He enjoyed playing golf and the pursuit of the 19th hole. Going to the Indy 500 was a treasured tradition for him. He loved sports cars and watching all things sports. There was a special place in his heart for the Chicago Cubs and Bears, and Purdue football and basketball. Vic continued to volunteer his time and money to his alma mater and Purdue Phi Delta Theta grand prix. He loved music and attended concerts. He was known for compiling annual Christmas CDs’ which he shared with family and friends.
His appreciation of the outdoors started at Gnaw Bone Camp where he attended for several years and then became a camp counselor. This love of nature continued throughout his life. He had his own renewable energy consulting business, Thompson Renewables Consulting. He enjoyed traveling around the world while working at Motorola when the first cell phones were being manufactured.
While living in Palatine, Vic joined his dear friend Lon Allison and other families to establish Deergrove Covenant Church. Deergrove Covenant is the church where the children grew up.
Those who will miss him the most are his wife (Diane), son (Chris), daughter (Ellen) and cousin (Ellen). A celebration of life will be held 1:00PM on March 8th at Christ’s Family Christian Church, Homosassa, FL.
