Roger William Rooks' Obituary
Roger William Rooks, 53, of Tampa, Florida, passed away in his sleep on the morning of October 7, 2014. He was born on November 21, 1959 in Fort Walton Beach, Florida and spent his childhood in Santa Rosa Beach, Fl. He graduated with the class of 1978 from Freeport High School and attended numerous colleges during his lifetime. His passion was learning and acquiring knowledge. He was an avid reader and loved family, life, nature, people and animals. He studied various religions voraciously and became a member of the Mormon Church on August 11, 2013. Roger was well loved, admired and respected as he touched many lives with his kindness, humor, and sincere compassion. His career spanned from Hospice of Leon County and Hillsborough County to the Area Agency for the Elderly of St. Lucie County. Roger is survived by his partner Keith Schorr, Tampa; his son, Jon Kyle Rooks, Ocala; daughter in law, Amy Steward, Ocala; grandchildren, Mackenzie Steward, Christopher Rooks, Madison Rooks and Dylan Rooks; father, Ronald Gilbert Rooks, Winterville, GA; step mother, Marlene Rooks, Winterville, GA; brother, Curtis Taylor Rooks, Dunedin; sister-in-law, Rebecca Rooks, Crestview; brother, David Randall Rooks, Lake Mary; brother-in-law, Douglas Kevin Jackson, Lake Mary; sister, Melodie Layne Rooks, Dunedin; sister, McKenzie Renee Stiles; brother, Ronald Gilbert Rooks II, Crestview; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins and his pets, Theona, Emily, Abbey and China. Roger is predeceased by his mother, Lillian Alice (Rooks) Coates, November 27, 1992 and his son, Christopher Martin Rooks, January 8, 2010. The service will be held at 2:00 pm on October 12, 2014 at the Moss Feaster Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 1320 Main Street, Dunedin, FL 34698. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the St. Francis Society Animal Rescue, PO Box 261614, Tampa, FL 33685-1614, www.stfrancisrescue.org.
