Rosemarie DeCuzzi's Obituary
Rosemarie DeCuzzi, age 96, of Dunedin, Florida passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2017.
Born August 14, 1921 in Brooklyn, New York to Joseph and Rose Galgano. Survived by her husband of 41 years, James DeCuzzi, age 103. Rosemarie was mother to four children, stepmother to two children, and grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother to many more.
Rosemarie was a teacher in New York City for special needs children. She was a dedicated long-term volunteer at UPARC/The Arc and hospice, and was inducted into the City of Dunedin Senior Hall of Fame for her contributions to the community. Her passion for her community and the welfare of others sprang from the deep well of her faith as a member of the St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church.
Rosemarie was insatiably curious about everything but especially understanding the history and culture of other peoples through reading and travel. Together, Rosemarie and Jim explored South America, Europe, Asia, and Africa, and drank in the wonders of North America from sea to shining sea. But more than anything else in her long and rich life, it was music and dance that expressed the ineffable essence of all that was best in this world for her.
With pure joy, Rosemarie and Jim danced. They danced at the Italian American Club at least once a week. They danced at an international folk festival or two. They were often the first on the dance floor at a wedding, and even more often the last ones to stop dancing at the end of the evening. For this reason, Rosemarie’s life is best remembered in the words of her favorite saying: “Dancing is life’s joyful gesture of longing for all that is beautiful."
A visitation will be held from 1:30 pm to 4 pm on Friday, September 22nd at Moss Feaster Funeral Home in Dunedin. Funeral services will begin at 4 pm immediately following the visitation.
