Rozella Fuguitt Eure's Obituary
Rozella Fuguitt Eure, 94, of Clearwater, Florida, passed away on March 24, 2015. She is survived by her son Thomas Eure, her daughter Sarah Eure Davis, her brother, Glenn Fuguitt, three grandsons, and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy T. Eure.
Rozella grew up in Clearwater, after graduating from Florida State College for Women (now Florida State University) during World War II, she taught home economics at Sarasota. In that time, she married Leroy Eure and they subsequently lived in many places as he pursued a career in the US Air Force. In later years, and with his retirement, she taught and was the principal of an elementary school in Durham, North Carolina. They moved to the family home in Clearwater in 1982, and later she later moved to the Oaks retirement home in 2002.
Family and Church were central to Rozella’s life. She had a long, loving relationship with her husband, Leroy, and across many moves they did interesting and useful things together. Throughout her life she was very close to her son and daughter.
She began her church life at Calvary Baptist Church in Clearwater, after her parents moved there in 1925. She met Leroy in the church when he was in service at McDill Field, and was active in the church youth groups. Everywhere they went in their working years, Rozella and Leroy were actively making contributions in a local church. Then when they returned to Clearwater she resumed her commitment to Calvary. Rozella was the longest standing member of record at Calvary Baptist Church, and will be remembered as a faithful Sunday school teacher, music ministry volunteer, and preschool worker. She raised generations of babies at Calvary and delighted in the accomplishments of the young people she had cared for in the nursery. Believing she would never stop learning, Rozella continued to read and study her Bible to her very last days.
More recently, as resident, she was quite active in the affairs of the Oaks retirement home, and for years was the Oaks librarian.
From college years on she remained an active member of Delta Zeta sorority, and recently received the Order of the Diamond as a seventy-five year member. Carrying her home economics skills throughout her life, she quilted, canned, crocheted, and made life more beautiful and enjoyable for everyone. Up to the last days her life, Rozella was a dynamic force for getting things done. Always cheerful and optimistic, she remained ready to confront anyone with a negative attitude. Truly she made a difference in this world.
Visitation will be Thursday April 2 at 10AM at the Moss Feaster Funeral home on Belcher Road, to be followed by interment at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park. There will be a Memorial Service for Rozella at the Oaks on Saturday April 4 starting at 2PM. The family requests that donations be made in her name to the preschool program at Calvary Baptist Church.
