Ruby Thornton Hoffman's Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Ruby Thornton Hoffman announces her passing on Saturday, January 12, 2019, at the age of 93 years. Ruby will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Janet Hoffman Yeaney of Grapevine, Texas and Lisa Hoffman Damaske (James) of Clearwater, Florida, her grandchildren Melissa Damaske, Carrie Marshall Li (James), and Drew Marshall, her three great grandchildren, four sisters, Mary Louise Parkinson, Lea May, Anne Jones, Lynda Grier and many other extended family members. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Elmore “Red” Hoffman, who passed in 1996.
Ruby was born in Clinton, South Carolina, on February 14, 1925 and grew up in Georgia with 10 other siblings. She worked as a civilian employee in the military during the Korean War and spent time living in Japan and the Philippines. She married her husband and love of her life in Las Vegas in 1955, and they were married for 41 years until his passing in 1996. Her love and devotion to him continued for the rest of her life. Ruby had many loving friends and was active as an elder at Trinity Presbyterian Church, bridge club, and Friday night group. She also volunteered throughout her life and was a P.E.O. Sister. She was an avid reader, and loved to cook and bake, but mostly she loved being with her family, friends, and beloved dogs. She always had an exceptionally kind heart, a warm smile, a sharp wit, and an infectious laugh. She was everyone’s favorite person and she is dearly missed. We will hold our memories with her close to our hearts.
A visitation will be held on January 27, 2019 from 2:00pm to 4:00 pm and a funeral service on January 28, 2019 at 10:00 am at Moss Feaster Funeral Home and Cremation in Clearwater, Florida, followed by a graveside service on January 28, 2019 at 1:30 pm at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
