MUNRO, “Sam” E. F., Jr.
‘End of the Trail’ for Sam Munro of Dunedin, Florida, formerly of Leominster, MA on July 3, 2026 at the age of 91. He was born July 31, 1934 in Newport, NH and was the son of the late E. F. Munro and Grace (Lashua) Munro of Leominster, MA. He arrived in Dunedin, FL in 1975 after retiring from the United States Air Force. He retired with the rank of Master Sergeant after serving 22 years and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. He received the Air Force Commendation Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters. His Air Force career commenced at Sampson AFB in NY with schooling at Fort Belvoir, VA. Transferred tours included Sidi Slimane AB in Morocco, Africa, Barksdale AFB in LA, Ben Guerir AB in Marrakesh, Morocco, Davis Monthan AFB in Tucson, AZ, Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, OH, South Ruislip AB in London, England and ended with a final tour at Torrejon AB in Madrid, Spain.
Sam earned an Associate Degree in Business Administration at St. Petersburg Junior College, graduating in 1977 and was a former salesman at Montgomery Wards until retirement in 1989.
After retirement, he played Softball with the “3 Score” Softball Club and ushered at Ruth Eckerd Hall, Clearwater for 10 years. He enjoyed playing golf, coin collecting, and traveling abroad in Europe with friends.
He was a past Exalted Ruler of Dunedin Elks Lodges 2275 and 1525 and was a member of the VFW 10093 and American Legion 238 in Safety Harbor. One of his Life’s many highlights was his recent trip to Washington D.C. on the Honor Flight last year at age 90!
Married to Betty L. Baker, the mother of his children, from October 1955 until February 1973. He is survived by children Ronda Willis (Len) of North Richland Hills, TX, Randall E. Munro of Ardmore, OK and Rachel Munro of Shreveport, LA. Grandchildren include Erica Walker (Casey), Jennifer White (Mitch), Haley Branch (Ramsey), Emily Easley and Andrew Easley (Brittney). Great grands are Emma, Carson, Grant, Easton, Sloane, Heidi, Elliott, Zoe, Ryan, Bruce, Autumn and Tanner. Besides his parents, Sam was predeceased by his sisters and their husbands, Beverly Hurtubise (Paul) and Barbara Davis (Arthur).
A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, July 11 at 11:00 at Moss Feaster Funeral Home, 1320 Main Street, Dunedin. There will be military honors. Family and Friends are warmly invited to celebrate Sam’s life by gathering Saturday, July 11 at 1:00 at the VFW Post 2550 located at 360 Douglas Avenue, Dunedin.
A special “Thank you” to the ICU staff at Mease Dunedin Hospital for taking such wonderful care of our Dad in his final days.
