Sheila McSweeney's Obituary
Sheila Mary Meehan McSweeney has gone to Heaven to join her husband and the love of her life of 55 years, Edward Donald McSweeney. She was in the presence of loving family at the time of her passing, and is smiling forever hereafter with Donnie by her side.
Sheila was a vibrant and colorful personality! She was an artist, creating the beautiful works that now have happy homes with her children and grandchildren. She was a great Mom, a fun-loving grandmother, and she loved our dogs Whiskers, Lucky and Sneakers as well as our cat Inky; she really enjoyed the bike rides and long walks she and Dad would take. Sheila loved the water, spending her time in Dunedin, Florida and at Melody Lake, New York swimming and paddle boating.
Mom loved seeing the world, traveling to Egypt, Jordan, the British Isles, Bermuda, Paris and Italy among a myriad of other places. Her favorite phrase was “...and the beat goes on!” We all heard that so often!
Sheila was a graduate of Albany High School, Broome Community College, and attended Albany Teachers College. She lived for many years in Endwell, New York while raising her family, and worked as a private duty nurse and social worker in the Binghamton area. If she wasn’t in the ocean, lake, jacuzzi or pool, she would be playing bridge or ballroom dancing, perhaps listening to Dixieland jazz...she loved music!
She is survived by her three children Brian (Kimberly) McSweeney, Erin (Dean) Bettinger and Taryn (John) Potts as well as her seven grandchildren Colleen (Josh) Grover, Laurie McSweeney, Mackenzie (Ryan) Smach, Cormac Bettinger, Avery (fiance Marshall) Potts, Colby (fiance Daniel) Potts and Griffith Potts as well as extended family and friends.
Sheila was a bright light in this world. Her joie de vivre, wide smile, and enthusiasm for life was so appreciated by everyone, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Rest in eternal peace, Mom, with Dad by your side.
