Thomas A Schultz's Obituary
Thomas A. Schultz (83) died peacefully on Friday, June 7, 2024 after a short stay in hospice and a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born on June 8, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan to Stanley and Helen (Lemaniak) Schultz, he lived in Michigan and Florida throughout his childhood. Along with his two sisters - Loretta and Marjorie - they lost their mother at an early age. He grew up attending Catholic school and working as a “soda jerk” in his dad’s pharmacy store. He attended Eastern Michigan University where he was a member of Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity. In 1964, he graduated with a bachelor's degree in Accounting and became a Certified Public Accountant.
Tom started his career in public accounting working for Deloitte, Haskins & Sells. He later moved to the private sector where was Controller for a large, family-owned construction company. He also served on the board of directors for the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants.
Tom married Pearl Ann Bommarito, an elementary school teacher, on July 11, 1970. He was welcomed into a large and boisterous Italian family. Tom and Pearl resided first in Rochester and then Birmingham, Michigan. They welcomed three children - Lynne, David and Rob. After one too many cold winters, the family made the big move to Florida in 1982 and lived in Feather Sound.
Tom enjoyed the warm weather and all the outdoor activities that Florida had to offer. He was a long-time member of Feather Sound Country Club and played tennis several times a week. He loved the beach and taking long walks along the water with Pearl. Clearwater Beach and Siesta Key were 2 of his favorites. He was a fan of many sports teams including the Tampa Bay Bucs where he could often be found yelling at the radio or TV on Sunday afternoons. He was also a season ticket holder with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
In Florida, he served as Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer for companies in the construction, auto parts and promotional products industries. Before retirement, he was a finance consultant and worked with companies across the country.
Tom enjoyed traveling and the family went on many vacations, including traveling back to Michigan to visit family. After his retirement, Tom and Pearl traveled extensively where they enjoyed exploring Europe via river boat cruises and lively tour groups. They made many friends from across the world along the way. Tom always entertained family and friends with his many “dad jokes.”
Tom’s loving spirit is carried on by his wife, Pearl; their children Lynne Donaghy (Neal), David Schultz (Erin) and Rob Schultz (Anna); their grandchildren, Kevin, Liam, Dylan, Asher, Ryker, Samuel and future granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters.
A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, June 18 at 11:00 am at St. Catherine’s of Siena Catholic Church followed by a burial at Calvary Catholic Cemetery. A reception will be held at Feather Sound Country Club following the burial ceremony.
