Thomas J. Urbanik's Obituary
Thomas J. Urbanik (64) of Madison, WI passed away peacefully on March 2, 2014 at Suncoast Hospice in Clearwater, FL after a year-long battle with brain cancer. He was born on May 13, 1949 in Waukegan, IL. He grew up in North Chicago, IL in the house his father built and received a Catholic education from the nuns at Holy Rosary parochial school. His education continued at Carmel High School in Mundelein, IL. Tom was a graduate of Marquette University's School of Engineering and was employed for over 30 years as a mechanical engineer at Forest Products Laboratories in Madison, WI. Following his retirement in 2009, he and his wife spent their winters at their residence in Dunedin, FL. Tom enjoyed home remodeling, dancing, bocce ball, canoeing, traveling and bicycling. Over the years, he biked through Europe, Hawaii and New Zealand putting on thousands of miles on his bicycle over the extent of his trips. Tom is survived by his wife of nine years, Annette; twin sister, Christine, of Waukegan, IL; and sisters Monica Urbanik (Owen McCusker) of Madison, WI and Louise Mullaley of Boston, MA; brothers in law, Joe Kuzmits and Greg Kuzmits of South Bend, Indiana; sister in law, Denise Crowel of South Bend, Indiana; also numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Rose, in 1989 and father, Aloysius, in 2001. The family would like to thank Suncoast Hospice for their tender, loving care during Tom's final weeks, and the many friends and neighbors he and Annette came to know at Victoria Palms Condominiums in Dunedin for their delicious home-cooked meals and wonderful assistance in helping the family whenever it was needed. A Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 6th at 10:00 am – 12:00 noon at Moss Feaster Dunedin Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated also on Thursday, March 6th at 1:00 pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic church in Dunedin. Thomas will be laid to rest at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Clearwater, FL. Memorial donations may be made in Thomas's memory to Catholic Relief Services or Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
