Thomas Russell Watt Sr.'s Obituary
Thomas Russell Watt, Sr., 88, of Punta Gorda, and more recently Largo, Florida, passed away on April 28, 2023 following a long illness. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Caroline; his sons Tom Watt, Jr. (Patrick Palmer), Kevin (Sharon) Watt, and Don (Leslie) Watt; grandchildren Kevin (Mary Joy) Watt, Jr., Nicole (Mark) Willinger, Lauren Watt, Adam (Lauren) Watt, and Sean Watt, and 3 great grandchildren Brianna Watt, Brooklyn Hanson, and Hendrix Willinger, to all of whom he was affectionally known as “PopPop.” He is also survived by a brother, Mark (Sandi) Watt, and a sister Gail (Butch) Shaffer. He was preceded in death by his father Gail Donald “Joe” Watt, his mother Claire Mazur, his step-mother Mabel Watt, and his sister Juanita Berghane.
Born in Washington, DC, Tom served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1957, and graduated from the University of Maryland in 1974. He worked as an electrical engineer for the U.S. Department of Defense. Tom and Caroline raised their family in Silver Spring and Clarksville, Maryland, where he was active in Calverton Community Association athletics, Boy Scout Troop 1322, the Paint Branch High School band boosters, and the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Tom enjoyed golfing, boating, traveling, breakfast with the Romeos, Terps basketball, Redskins football, Orioles and Rays baseball, and laughing with friends and family.
Arrangements are with Moss Feaster Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held in late summer for family and friends.
