Victor J Cossetta's Obituary
Victor Joseph Cossetta, 89, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on March 20, 2019.
Vic is survived by his loving wife Ann Marie; his son Jim and daughter-in-law Veronica; daughter Teresanne and son-in-law Christopher Russell; 4 beloved grandchildren: Benjamin, Jillian, Ava and Gabriel; brother Edward Cossetta.
He was preceded in death by his mother Angela Rizzola; father Carlo; sister Giuseppina; brother Emil.
Vic was born and raised on Mariners Harbor, Staten Island, N.Y., where he spent his days playing baseball, raising his homing pigeons and hanging out in his clubhouse with his childhood friends. Vic was a Staff Sergeant in the U. S. Air Force during the Berlin Airlift 1948-1952, stationed in England. One of his fondest memories was when he visited the island of Guernsey in 1949 with USAF Gadgets fast-pitch softball team. They were the first to visit the island to play softball, which is now an island mainstay.
Upon returning home from his service he became a NYC Firefighter where he drove the Hook & Ladder for Engine 6, in downtown Manhattan and then at Engine 159 on Staten Island. Vic moved to Naples, Florida in 1977 with his family, where he worked as a US Postal Carrier and loved to eat pecan pie with his cup of morning coffee, as he walked the Naples Pier. "Thinking... always thinking..." as he would say.
Vic was a kind and wonderful person that loved his family and had an amazing impact on virtually everyone he came in contact with. He loved to tell stories and everyone loved to listen. Vic truly lived a life worth living.
A funeral mass will be held at Espiritu Santo Catholic Church, 2405
Phillippe Parkway, Safety Harbor, Florida 34695 on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 10:30 am, followed by a Celebration of Life gathering to be held at the church’s Parish Center.
