Vickie Vore was a bright spot on my Meals on Wheels route. After a couple of months of delivering meals and exchanging pleasantries, we discovered we had something in common. We had both had careers in show business. This discovery led to a friendship that lasted for twelve years. We had the same taste in music and spent many afternoons drinking coffee listening to old records. Nat King Cole, Ramsey Lewis and Keely Smith were in heavy rotation. Though Vickie relied on a wheelchair and suffered severe arthritis, she never complained, never felt sorry for herself, and led a remarkably independent life. She was an inspiration to me and my colleagues at Meals on Wheels. We all adored her. I will never forget her and always cherish her friendship.
