My Father - Vincent Albert Randazzo is a hero. He’s not only my hero and role model, but he is to his entire family and all of his friends. And, if you were his friend, you were family. Dad always led by example, showing us all how to work hard, care for the ones you love and do the right thing.
Dad, his beautiful sister and his strong brothers didn’t have it easy growing up. Losing their own father much too young, they all, together with their mother, kept close and fought hard to make the most out of a very difficult situation. They always stuck together and they each instilled the same in their own children.
When Dad turned 18, he was drafted and fought in WWII. He fought literally - as a boxer. A shock, to those who knew him. Such a sweet, kind and loving man, did his best to make the most of being away from family while at war.
Dad returned to NYC after WWII, and was working as an elevator operator when he met his beautiful bride. It was true love at first sight. He has told us all the story of their first date. Even after multiple strokes over the past few years, Dad remembered vivid details of the past. He also showed us every day how much he loved his wife and best friend - our Mom. Even when he wasn’t feeling great, he would hear her voice, or see her, and you could see the love in his eyes and on his face.
I can speak for my 5 siblings; Angela, Mary, Frank, Patricia, Diane, and myself, as well as our spouses. We’re all proud and lucky to have our parents for parents. And we’re so glad that they had each other for almost 69 married years together.
We’re also fortunate that our own children, and their children can call Dad and Mom their Grandparents, great Grandparents and great, great Grandparents. Along with our many cousins and their families, who have these great people for an Uncle and Aunt.
We’re grateful for all of Dad’s excellent friends near and far. Especially Fern and Jeanette, Dolly, and Jim & Gerry. And the excellent care given by the most caring and loving caregivers that quickly became part of our family; Loraine, MaryAnn and Jackie.
Dad, Thank you for always being there for me. I know you still are and will be with us all, always and forever. I could never thank you enough for all you have given, and for being my father, mentor and friend.
You will always be my hero. I love you and will miss you everyday.
