Virginia “Jean” Ann (Gonot) Baker

Virginia “Jean” Ann (Gonot) Baker, Clearwater, Florida died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, July 8, 2019 at her home. She has been called home by the Lord and is finally at peace after a long, painful battle with cancer.
Born on Friday, January 10, 1932 in Bridgeport, Ohio to George and Hedia (Nellie) Gonot who both emigrated from Syria to the United States in 1914 through Ellis Island and finally making their way to Bridgeport, Ohio. She was married to Harold C “Sam” Baker, Jr. (deceased) on June 10, 1953 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Bridgeport, Ohio. Jean worked as a bookkeeper for various businesses in the Wheeling, WV area during her career while raising a family of 4 children. Upon her retirement she worked at various charitable organizations and assisted St. Anthony Catholic Church in several capacities including working in their food pantry.
In 2014 Jean “retired” to Clearwater, Florida to get away from the winters in Ohio and to be closer to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Jean was active in her community sharing activities with friends and neighbors. Jean loved to cook for family and friends. Everyone was welcome at her table as long as they brought their appetite and shared her love of food and family. She always carried on the family’s tradition of sharing time-honored recipes with friends and family. Jean was an active member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Dunedin, Florida.
Jean is survived by her son Harold C. “Sam” Baker and wife Melanie M. Bunstine of Columbus, Ohio, grandson Nathan Baker and partner Daniel Dinneen of Columbus, Ohio, grandson Kyle Baker and wife Lamece (Shouman) Baker, great-grandson Kyle Baker, Jr. of Worthington, Ohio, daughter Rosemarie C. (Baker) Barritt of Ovedio, Florida, granddaughter Amber (Barritt) Batson and husband Buck Batson of Houston, TX, granddaughter Arielle (Barritt) Haughee and husband Tim Haughee, great-grandson Luke Haughee, great-grandson Caleb Haughee of Orlando, Florida, George Baker (deceased) and wife Connie (Romeo) Baker, grandson George Baker, Jr., granddaughter Joanne Baker, daughter Karen S. (Baker) Vince and husband Gregory Vince, grandson Joseph Vince of Marrietta, Georgia, grandson Ryan Vince of Palm Harbor, Florida, and sister Patricia (Gonot) Herzburg of Columbus, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold C “Sam” Baker, Jr., her father George and mother Nellie Gonot, brothers Ed Gonot, Tom Gonot, Fred Gonot, Lou Gonot, Joe Gonot, William Gonot, and sisters Lee (Gonot) Bowman, Nell (Gonot) Fitzpatrick, Rose (Gonot) Weisal, Marge (Gonot) Trouten, and Mary Gonot. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her, both family and friends.
A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, September 7th, at 11:00 am at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 2281 State Road 580, Clearwater, FL 33763. A Memorial Mass will also be held at St.Catholic Church on October 4th at 10:00 am in Wolfurst, Ohio. Interment will follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery in Blaine Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the St. Anthony's Cemetery Fund, 605 Main Street, Bridgeport, Ohio 43912, or the charity of your choice.
