Von Gene Taylor Jr's Obituary
Von G. Taylor, Jr., 66, of Safety Harbor, FL passed suddenly on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Mease Countryside Hospital.
Von was born September 23, 1950 in Brighton, MA, to his late parents Von and Martha Taylor, Sr. He grew up in Wilmington, MA and graduated from Wilmington High School. He became a Seabee in the US Navy and later applied many of the skills and trades learned in the service. On November 26, 1972 he married Betty F. Greenhalgh of Warwick, RI. Von and Betty had their daughter, Laurie Marie on August 23, 1976 in Warwick, RI. Their son, Von G. Taylor, III, completed their family on January 28, 1981 in Niskayuna, NY.
Von and Betty eventually relocated and raised their family in Safety Harbor, FL. Von spent most of his career in the banking industry and flourished in sales as a top producer with Mosler Safe Company. Von loved traveling, hosting cookouts and family gatherings, volunteering, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Safety Harbor Rotary Club and a former Commodore of the Safety Harbor Boat Club.
Once retired, Von enjoyed traveling with Betty. They enjoyed many road trips and especially liked taking cruises throughout the Caribbean. They were very involved in seeing their only grandchild, Christopher William Kemp, grow up nearby. They were able to play an active part in his life seeing his school activities, baseball games, and watching him grow up and become a young man.
Von is survived by his wife Betty Taylor, three siblings; Martha Preble and her husband Jimmy, Susan Wass and her husband Alan, John Taylor and his wife Lynne, two children; Laurie Marie Kemp and her husband Wayne and their son Christopher, Von G. Taylor III and his wife Tiffany. Von had a large family that included several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins. All of his family was very important to him. He was often thought of as the patriarch of the family.
On Sunday, December 11th, a gathering to celebrate his life will be held at Moss Feaster, 1320 Main St., Dunedin, FL 34698 from 4 pm to 5 pm with a memorial service beginning at 5 pm.
A burial service will take place on Monday, December 12th at 10:45 AM at Bay Pines National Cemetery, 10000 Bay Pines Boulevard, St. Petersburg, FL 33708.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Von’s memory to the charity of your choice. He was passionate about many causes but was always the first person to offer to help someone else. He would want you to make a donation to a cause special to you.
