Wayne Edward Tuggle's Obituary
Wayne E. Tuggle, 71 died in his home after fighting a long battle with COPD. Wayne was an only child, born in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania on April 21, 1944 to Henry Tuggle and Mildred Nordman.
After his parents retired in 1963, the family decided to move and build their first home in an upcoming subdivision in Dunedin, Florida.
Wayne was a Lutheran, attending St. Paul’s in Clearwater, St. Marks in Dunedin and St. Matthias in Clearwater. He was actively involved in the choir of all three churches and the youth groups in St. Marks and St. Matthias.
He worked for a the Square D Company in Clearwater for twenty years testing and diagnosing transformers for big power substations, after it closed, he moved to ITI who finally sold to GE where he stayed until his retirement. Wayne was one of the twenty people in the world who could safely work with high voltages they needed for some of the “special” tests. He was brought back out of retirement for a year to help GE with these “special” tests.
Wayne was an avid photographer, cook, camper and canoer. When not at work or at home resting, he could be found at his favorite place to be: nature. He used to spend hours hiking around the Nine Eagles area before development took it over. He’d love to tell all about how he hiked the area that is now the Westfield Mall. He was also proud of being an end to ender by canoeing across the Everglades in south Florida.
Wayne had a wicked sense of humor, and was very quick with a comeback. He would keep you in stitches and on your toes.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Linda, his son, John Tuggle and his son’s fiancé, Marie.
A memorial service is being held at St. Matthias Lutheran Church, 2751 Sunset Point Road, Clearwater on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Suncoast Hospice 727-467-7424.
