William M Bambarger Sr.'s Obituary
In Loving Memory of William Bambarger Sr.
August 13, 1942– April 13, 2025
With deep sadness and immeasurable love, we announce the passing of William “Bill” Bambarger Sr., who left this world peacefully on April 13, 2025. He was a devoted husband to Charlotte “Miller” Bambarger for 62 wonderful years, a loving father, a cherished grandfather, and a beloved great-grandfather — a truly extraordinary man whose legacy lives on in all who knew and loved him.
Bill was preceded in death by his beloved son, Bill Bambarger Jr., and is survived by his daughters Cindy “Bambarger” Beil (John)and Kathy “Bambarger” Scharf (Gary). He was the proud “Pop Pop” to seven adoring grandchildren — Matt Bambarger (Katie), Lauren “Bambarger” Coco (Mike), Kim Bambarger, Zachary Beil, Kylie Beil, Reagan Scharf, and Ryan Scharf — and a doting great-grandfather to Jackson and Maddie Bambarger.
Service was a cornerstone of Bill’s life. He proudly served as an auxiliary firefighter, a calling he was deeply passionate about, and held leadership roles as the Exalted Ruler of the Essex Maryland Elks and as an officer of the Dunedin Florida Elks. During his decades-long career with Baltimore Gas & Electric, he rose to Assistant General Foreman of Substation Construction and Maintenance, where he led a team of 125 with integrity, dedication, and heart.
Bill was, quite simply, brilliant — the sharpest mind in any room, with a wit that never dulled. He was quick with a joke, endlessly silly, and a gifted storyteller, especially when it came to his unforgettable (and possibly edited) firehouse tales.
He was a master of the grill, a lover of Maryland crabs, and an amazing cook — with a legendary sweet tooth that often had Charlotte guiding him through the “no-candy kids” checkout lane. He proudly carried the title of “safety police” and was a world-class worry wart, but above all, he was a model of hard work and dedication — a legacy he passed down to his children and grandchildren.
Bill had a love for his Baltimore Ravens as well as an incredible bond with animals, who always seemed to love him right back — sometimes even the larger, unexpected kind. He was a peacekeeper, a gentle soul, and a man whose kindness left an impression on everyone. Every nurse who cared for him echoed the same sentiment: “I wish all my patients were like him.”
He gave endlessly — to his family, his community, and the world around him. He lived with love, led with laughter, and left us all better for knowing him.
A lifelong lover of Limoncello, we’ve promised to raise a glass every year on his birthday in his honor — and we will.
We miss him more than words can express, but we are forever grateful for the joy, strength, and love he brought into our lives.
