William Michael Callanan's Obituary
William "Mike" Michael Callanan, 78, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2025, in Dunedin, Florida. Born on July 30, 1947, in Troy, New York, William moved to Dunedin with his family in 1957 and proudly called it home for the rest of his life.
A devoted patriot, William served in the United States Air Force for four years as a Security Police officer, including honorable service in Vietnam. After completing his military duty, William dedicated himself to protecting his community. He served with the Dunedin Police Department for 23 years, retiring with the rank of Sergeant. Throughout his career, William was respected for his integrity, calm leadership, and quiet strength.
William found joy in time spent with family, sharing stories, laughing together, and celebrating life’s simple blessings. He cherished the friendships he built with fellow Dunedin Police Department officers and retirees, and he loved reconnecting with them through gatherings and shared memories.
William was preceded in death by his parents, John Edward Callanan and Margaret Helen Block. He leaves behind a loving family who will forever hold him in their hearts: his son, Michael (Gigiola) Edward Callanan; daughter, Melinda “Mindy” Callanan; three grandchildren, Connor Skiff, Jarron McGuire, and William Callanan; his brother, Steve Block; longtime companion and best friend, Janie Egbert; and his former wife, mother of his children, and dear friend, Elizabeth Garrett.
William’s life was one of courage, loyalty, and love, and his legacy will continue through the family and community he so deeply cared for.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, in honor of his dedication and service.
