Dr William Joseph Huff's Obituary
Dr. William “Bill” Huff, of Safety Harbor, FL, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 24th at the age of 83. Bill was the dedicated husband to his wife of 58 years, Sandy, and a loving father to his children, Wendy Ioannou (husband Dino), Teresa Quimby (husband Joe), and Bryce Huff (partner Holly). His four grandchildren - Logan Fowler, Sean Fowler, Kira Quimby, and Zoe Huff- were the source of immense pride and his love for them knew no bounds. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy Tilghman of Beaufort, NC.
Bill was born on January 1, 1942, in Winston Salem, NC, to Clyde and Glenola Huff. He pursued higher education at Wake Forest University, followed by the University of Florida, and then The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he earned his Master’s and PhD degrees. He maintained memberships in the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM), the American Board of Radiology, and the Florida Chapter of the AAPM. Notably, he was a charter member and former president of the Florida AAPM Chapter and was honored with the Walter Mauderli Lifetime Achievement Award.
Bill was a man of immense generosity of spirit and a keen, often mischievous, sense of humor that endeared him to many. His capacity for love extended deeply to his family and close friends, for whom he would go to great lengths. Bill consistently sought opportunities to bring laughter into the lives of others, often employing a quick wit and an arsenal of well-worn jokes. He was a steadfast and reliable friend, a shoulder to lean on in times of trouble, and a celebrant of life's joys. His affection for animals was profound, a testament to his nurturing nature and empathetic soul. He was notoriously frugal with himself and graciously generous with others. He loved singing, The Tampa Rays, the Buccaneers, woodworking, plants, nature, and life.
Above all else, his family was the cornerstone of his life, providing him with purpose and immeasurable joy. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy of kindness, generosity, and love will linger in all of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at Heritage United Methodist Church in Clearwater, FL. The family will begin receiving visitors 2 hours prior to service. Final resting place will be Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park.
