William Dean Moody's Obituary
William Dean Moody (Dean) passed away peacefully on December 24, 2024, in his Largo, FL residence, at the age of 98. Dean was born on July 23, 1926, in Winter Haven, FL.
When Dean was 3 years old, his family moved to Crystal Beach, FL, where he grew up. He graduated from Tarpon Springs High School in 1943, and later that year, began studies at the University of Florida where he attained is BS degree, than continued on to get his Master’s degree in Marine Biology in 1949. His Master’s thesis on the “Study of the Speckled Trout” was later published.
During his first year at university, he enlisted in the Army Air Corp Cadets, but was deferred.
In 1950, Dean entered the Emory School of Medicine, graduating in 1954. He went on to an internship at the University of Miami, finishing his training in 1956.
During this period, he married his first wife, Gwen Moody, who later passed away.
After completing his internship, he was recalled to the Air Force School of Aviation and served as a Flight Surgeon with the Strategic Air Command for 2 years.
Upon discharge in 1958, he returned to Clearwater, FL and went into Family Practice where he served his community for 30 years.
In 1989 he met and married Nancy Davis, and they spend the next 35 years fishing, traveling, and enjoying life.
Dean is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughter, Laura Baxter of Monument, CO and Sherry Davis of Arden, NC, and 4 grandchildren; Mikaela, Cody, Robert, and Nathan.
