William G Neiman's Obituary
William G. Neiman
January 24, 1925 to November 19, 2023
A total solar eclipse occurred the day Bill Neiman was born. A rare event and the start of a life well-lived by a special man who took care of his family, served his communities, church and his country with dignity and good humor.
He was married to his soulmate Anna Geimeyer Neiman for 63 years. He took care of her during many years of kidney dialysis until her death in 2010. He has two loving daughters, Elizabeth Britton (John)of West Chester, Pennsylvania and Susan Phillips (James)of Dunedin Florida; Four adored grandchildren- Pamela Balbierer (Michael) Newark, Delaware, Patricia Banks (Stephen) St. Petersburg, Florida, Allison Kavulich (George) of Pinehurst, North Carolina, and his beloved grandson Jeffrey Phillips (10/9/85-5/8/19). Bill was very proud to have 5 great grandchildren- Matthew and Nicholas Balbierer as well as Matthew, Katherine and George Kavulich. He was thrilled to be able to meet 7 month old George just this past week. His grands all called him Pop or Poppy. For the past 11 years, Bill was privileged to have another love in his life, Betty Hortsman and we love her as well. Bill is also survived by four nieces, a nephew and their families who remember their fun Uncle Bill with fondness.
Bill was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. During WW II he proudly served his country as a paratrooper in the 503rd infantry Army Regimental Combat Team in the Philippines. His unit was part of General Jones’ 3,000 thieves in Corregidor, who were known for getting the things they needed to be an effective unit. 7,500 Japanese soldiers surrendered to their unit at the end of the war. He met his wife, Anne at his 21st birthday party after returning home from the war. They started life and a family together in the city before moving to Aldan, Pennsylvania. They were members of the Methodist Church. Bill was energetic and worked hard at several careers into his 80’s. He trained and worked as a lithographer for most of his working life. After “retirement” Anne and Bill moved to Dunedin. They had a large circle of friends and traveled extensively in both the world and the United States to every state except Alaska, often attending his regiment’s reunions. Bill loved dancing, bicycling, tennis and was quite a avid card player! Cars and driving trips were a passion. Everyone who met him was treated to his storytelling, humor and quick wit. Bill’s journey through life may have ended but the joy he brought our families and others will never be forgotten.
A memorial service will be held for William on Friday November 24, 2023 at 10:30am, in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 750 San Salvador Dr, Dunedin. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
