William R. "Bill" Sill, III's Obituary
William R. “Bill” Sill, III, 93, a long-time resident of Dunedin, FL formerly of Rome, NY, and originally from Pittsburgh, PA, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026, at the Charles T. Sitrin Health Care, in New Hartford, NY, where he had been a resident since December 2025. Born on May 4, 1933, in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of William R. and Theresa (Bachman) Sill, Jr.
Bill received his B.A.S. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and his M.A.S degree (Engineering Administration) from Syracuse University. Living in Rome, Bill met his wife, Kathleen, married, and there, raised their four children. He utilized his education to proudly serve his country as a Captain in the United States Air Force for ten years and 30 years in Civil Service with Rome Air Development Center at Griffis Air Force base before his retirement to Dunedin.
For more than 45 years, Bill was also a devoted member of Al-Anon Family Groups, where he offered encouragement, understanding, and hope to countless individuals and families. His dedication to the organization carried him around the world and led him to serve for six years on the Board of Directors for the Al-Anon Family Groups national office.
During retirement, Bill volunteered as a Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Dunedin. He found satisfaction and joy in serving his country, his church, and the Al-Anon Family Groups. Bill loved walking along a beautiful beach, good conversation, giving to others and exploring the places that his work and calling brought him.
Bill's passing leaves behind many treasured friendships. He genuinely valued the connections he made with others. He will be remembered for his leadership, experience sharings, sound mentorship, friendly nature, thoughtful heart, and big, easy laugh.
Surviving are his three children, Chris Rossi, of Canastota, NY, Jeffrey (Denise) Sill, of Plattsburgh, NY, and Kathy (Aaron) Barefoot-Soles, of Glacier, WA; a son-in-law, Theodore (Doherty) Sill, of Peru, NY; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Bill was predeceased by a son, William G. Sill on November 26, 2020, and ex-wife, Kathleen (Colmey) Sill on June 10th, 2026.
Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral mass for Bill to be held at 11:00 AM on the 27th of July, 2026 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 750 San Salvador Drive, Dunedin, FL followed by internment with Military Honors in Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park, Clearwater, FL.
