William Darrell Spradlin
William was a pioneer in the space program, starting his employment with Pratt & Whitney helping to design airplane engines. Following Pratt & Whitney he joined the space program pre-Apollo and then with the Apollo program and Gruman. After the space program he opened Sara’s Western Wear in Cocoa Florida where he and his beloved wife, Sara, worked for 7 years until he joined the Space Shuttle program to design solid rocket boosters. While in the Shuttle program he was the recipient of the Snoopy Award and then concluded his employment as a manager with Space Hab.
He is survived by his wife,of 50 years of marriage, Sara Booth Spradlin, whom he married on July 11, 1970. Survivors also include his brother Donald (Karen) Spradlin, his nephew David (Shelly) Spradlin, his niece Angela (Reece) Ryan, all of Ashland, KY; his nephew Michael (Julie) Booth of Houston, TX, nephew Robert (Karen) Booth of Lexington, KY, and niece Janet Booth of Stanford, KY.
Preceding him in death are his parents William Albert and Mary M. Collins Spradlin, and brother, Jim Spradlin.
