William Jones Williamson Jr's Obituary
Williamson, William J., Jr. "Bill" of Dunedin, FL died Thursday, August 1, 2024. Bill was born in December 1952 in Tampa, Florida and is preceded in death by father, William J. Williamson, Sr. and mother, Nancy S. Williamson. He is survived by wife Greta, daughter Erin, brother Hugh (wife Lynn) and various nieces and nephews and in-laws. Bill was a South Tampa native and attended Dale Mabry Elementary, Coleman Middle and Plant High School, and graduated from Coral Gables High School. He went on to attend University of Florida and University of South Florida, earning a Bachelor of Science in engineering. He was an avid sailor and lifelong member at Davis Island Yacht Club, sailing on Namis, Mullet Skiff, Chiquita, Freedom of Hamble and most recently, Raptor, and his boat in Dunedin, Edgar. He crewed on races across the east coast of the U.S., in and around Florida and an international race to Cuba. He met Greta in 1977, and they married in 1979 where they lived in South Tampa for 43 years before retiring to Dunedin this year. Bill, Greta and Erin traveled to visit family in Northern Ireland, as well as vacationed in London, Scotland, Czech Republic, Canada, the Netherlands, Barbados, the Bahamas as well as visiting Erin in California and Washington, DC where she has lived since 2010. They enjoyed a winter trip to Yukon, Canada to see the Northern Lights as a family in December 2023. Bill was a Tampa Bay Rays baseball fan, hurricane door celebrity among his colleagues in the door and hardware business, a Floridian through and through, the ultimate problem-solver, endlessly curious and endlessly stubborn. He had a larger-than-life laugh and made friends everywhere he went. Most importantly, he was a dedicated, supportive and selfless husband, dad, brother, son and friend.
