Willis Murray Curls' Obituary
Willis Murray Curls, a proud veteran of the United States Army, passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, under Hospice care. The son of Matthew and Georgia Elizabeth (Burnette) Curls was born on July 15, 1928, in Madison, Florida and moved to Clearwater, Florida in 1929. Prior to graduating from high school, he joined the United States Merchant Marine at 16 years of age. He served for 1 year prior to returning to graduate from Clearwater High School. He was a graduate of Jacksonville State University, Jacksonville, Alabama.
At the age of 19, Willis "Murray" Curls enlisted in the United States Army. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of Chief Warrant Officer, W4. He retired in 1972 with 22 years of service. As part of this service, he served in Japan, Korea and Vietnam and received many distinguished honors.
Willis Murray Curls is predeceased by his first wife, Doris Johnson Curls and stepson, Russel Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Jane Curls, stepchildren John (Virginia) Curls, Bob (Cindi) Curls and Cindy (Scott) McGarrigle and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Murray will be returned to Anniston, Alabama to be laid to rest.
