Albin Stravinskas' Obituary
Albin Stravinskas, 93, passed away on Friday, June 30, 2017 at his home in Dunedin, FL. He was born on Aug. 23, 1923 to Joesph Stravinskas and Anna Jaskunas.
Al grew up in Chicago, IL. He graduated from Tilden Technical High and was drafted and assigned to an U.S. Army Infantry Division, Americal in 1944. He was a decorated veteran who served in World War II and received honors including two Bronze Stars and one Purple Heart. He was discharged in 1946. He graduated from Illinois Institute of Tech in 1951 and worked as an industrial engineering supervisor at TRW Electronic Component Division for more than 30 years. He was a member of Tilden Honor Society and Valedictorian at St. George Catholic School in Bridgeport, IL.
Al married Margaret Payne in January 1950 at St George’s Church in Bridgeport, IL. They were happily married for 67 years, lived in Elmhurst, IL, and then moved to Dunedin, FL, in 1985. He enjoyed travel, golf, was a Boy Scout leader, and was a moderator of the Currents Events discussion group Hale Senior Activity Center in Dunedin, FL. He traveled extensively to more than 25 foreign countries. One of the highlights was being in Russia during the 1991 Revolution.
Al was preceded in death by his father Joseph Stravinskas, mother Anna Stravinskas, and sister Matilda Stravinskas. Al is survived by his spouse, Margaret Stravinskas, in Dunedin, Fla.; his daughters Diane (Bill) Zdenek, Linda Poslusny, and Patricia Canning and his son Dave Stravinskas; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, July 8 at 11 am at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church at 750 San Salvador Drive, Dunedin, FL, with a reception following at Patricia Oaks Clubhouse.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at 225 N. Michigan Ave., floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601. Condolences may be sent to Linda Poslusny at 1435 Lake Geneve Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23464.
