Anne R O'Neal's Obituary
Anne Rose Robbins was born June 7, 1921. She was named after her grandmother Anna Rosalie. Her parents, Nina and Earl, raised Anne and her 5 siblings on a farm in New York State. There was no running water, electricity or the other amenities we enjoy today. Her family went to town about once a month for groceries and it was a treat to ride in the wagon. All the children would get an ice cream cone - a much anticipated treat!
During WWII, everything was rationed. She had no new shoes during the war. Everyone did whatever they could to help get the troops back home. Anne was employed at a GE plant where she worked a 6-spindle drill press making war products.
After the war ended, Anne worked in a "Mom & Pop" grocery store with her husband John Hukey. She was cashier, butcher, and the heart of that store. They sold the store in 1953 and eventually bought The Bay Palms Hotel in Dunedin, Florida.
Anne thought the world of her mother. She acquired her positive view of the world from Nina. Her mother prayed with all the children every night. She taught, "Don't ever forget if you put your hands out, God will take them." Anne loved the Lord and attended church faithfully. She was a 50 year member of Grace Lutheran Church in Clearwater, and a Stephens minister who tended many people's spiritual needs.
Anne and John divorced in 1964. She met a wonderful southern man who sweet-talked her for two years before she went on a date. Anne married George in 1969, and they had a wonderful 30 years of married life together before he succumbed to cancer.
Anne was very proud that she finally earned her GED after the hotel was sold. She then held a professional job at Pioneer Western Insurance Company and retired after 4 years.
Florida was Anne's beloved home. She knew the names of seashells, loved the scent of orange blossoms, and enjoyed hosting family when they visited her sunshine state.
For the past few years, Anne lived at Accordia Woods where she received loving care from the staff. She would want all who knew and loved her to continue to spread love and celebrate life.
A visitation will be held from 1 pm to 2 pm on Wednesday July 22nd at Moss Feaster Funeral Home in Dunedin. Funeral services will begin at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Anne's memory to Suncoast Hospice at www.thehospice.org.
