Betty Wetzel peacefully went to Heaven on May 6, 2023. She was born in Quicksburg, VA to Harold Burch and Virginia Neff Burch. She is survived by her two brothers Don Burch and Ken Burch. She graduated from Triplett High School and attended James Madison University. She met her future husband, Wayne Wetzel at the Shenandoah County Fair. They were happily married for 64 years. They lived in Clearwater, FL 61 years. God blessed them with four children. Gary, Vicki, Kathy, and Michael. Because of a rare liver defect, Gary lived to be 2 and Kathy lived to be 10. Betty was an excellent caregiver. She took loving care of them night and day. They had constant pain and itch, but constant happiness. While beautifully taking care of her children, she would still meet the needs of others outside our home. She never saw a need she did not try to meet. Betty was an adored Grandma to her two Grandsons, Caleb Lamperski and Collin Wetzel. She was a caring Mother-in-law to Michael Garcia and Erin Wetzel. If you would look at the “ideal” Moms on TV, none would come close to being as good as ours. Mom ALWAYS dressed beautifully. She was the definition of femininity and being a lady. She decorated with so many personal touches. She truly “made a house a home”. Every small holiday was celebrated with special decor and food in our home (even President’s Day). Betty was a fabulous cook!!! You would wake up to a hot breakfast, eat a good lunch, and come home to a delicious supper. She was such a gifted hostess, people would just love to come and stay. She kept the home neat and clean, but was happy to see kids have fun and mess it all up. Our house was the hangout place for all our friends. A constant comment we would get was how peaceful our home felt. Betty was involved in every aspect of her families life. She knew all our friends, our hopes, dreams, hurts, and joys. She took us to music lessons, horseback riding, youth group, and endless activities. Even when a child was in the hospital (she would not leave their side), she planned and found creative ways to make sure her other two kids lives did not miss a beat. She had the strongest “Mom intuition” you have ever seen. She would just know “things” either because of her close walk with God or her special “Mom” gift. Her marriage was strong and unshakable. The love was pure, powerful, and true. They would often be playful and flirty with each other. Wayne was always very proud of her. Betty was a “people person” and a “people magnet”. Everyone loved her. We never met a person who was not extremely fond of her. Many considered Mom their “best friend”. It is hard to find a more caring person than Betty. Her love ran deep and people felt it. The most special part of Betty was her faith and close walk with God. Not many people have heard the audible voice of God (He simply said, “I really care” before her daughter passed away), seen him, touched his warm slightly rough hands, and seen so many different angels. She had godly dreams and visions about future events. Her prayers would move Heaven. She recently with the sweetest smile said, “I saw Jesus, and He is pleased with me”. Two weeks before her passing, she saw a large blonde angel who said, “your journey is about over and soon we will travel together”. She thought it would be that day, but it was two weeks later. Her love for God was contagious. Her kids learned to know God from the crib. She was a mother who greatly interceded for her children in prayer. Her first prayer she remembers praying, was for a girl who was about to be taken away from her parents and put in an orphanage. She remembers as a child, running to a tree and crying before God for her friend to not have to leave her parents. That prayer was answered. She was healed of constant migraines she had as a child, when she touched the TV and prayed with Oral Roberts. She loved to read the Bible and was the best Sunday School Teacher. She suffered far more than most humans have ever suffered. She fought cancer and congestive heart failure for over 20 years. Mom is a fighter who never gave up on hope. She trusted God to the end. You would often hear the words when she would struggle, “Jesus help me”. And He would. Betty lived by the command, “Love the Lord your God with all of your heart, soul, mind, and strength and to love your neighbor as yourself”. She passed away very peacefully and was able to be with all of her family. She is reunited with her son, Gary, daughter, Kathy, parents, special Pastors & friends like Vep Ellis and Brian Barnett. Betty will eternally “love you”!!! She wants each of you to visit her in her gorgeous Heavenly Mansion where she will continue to be the Hostess with the Mostest. She is free of pain, running down golden streets, dancing, listening to beautiful harp music, and even going on horse rides. We are honoring her wishes of no funeral service. She would like in lieu of flowers for a donation to go the Christ Church at 1111 Indiana Avenue, Palm Harbor, FL. 34683.
