Carmen G. Asis' Obituary
Carmen Asis was called home to Heaven to be with the Lord on January 15, 2015 at Mease Countryside Hospital in Safety Harbor, Florida. She was born in Manila, Philippines. She began her life in the United States with her beloved husband, Alex, in 1963. She was a school teacher for many years. After retiring as a schoolteacher she transitioned to the healthcare profession where she retired from the University of Michigan Health Services in 1998.
A leader, mentor and motivator of the community in the metropolitan Detroit area where she lived for 37 years. Proud of her Filipino heritage, she helped in establishing the initiation of PAFA (Philippine-American Family Association) as well as BLD-Detroit (Bukas Loob sa Diyos) and a former president of FILAMCCO of Michigan. She was also very active in the church community both in Michigan and in Florida.
She enjoyed cooking, traveling, praying the rosary at the beach and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Carmen is survived by her beloved husband of 52 years, Alex; son, Frank G. (Tina) Asis of Westampton, New Jersey; daughters Sheree Asis (Mark) Illanas of Tucson, Arizona; Mickie (Ron) Asis of Palm Harbor, Florida; four grandchildren, A.J. Asis, Gabrielle Illanas, Nolan Illanas and Mateo Asis; sister Milagros Gonzales of Manila, Philippines and many more family and friends.
